This wild ginger is one that consistently sails through our winters unblemished, despite being endemic to two small tropical islands off the south coast of Japan, Ucchima and Ujimukaeshima. In the woodland garden, the slowly expanding clumps of highly polished dark green leaves are simply outstanding. These likely speciated when their native habitat was much
